Helen Heavirland has spoken for churches, schools, and women’s conferences. She has presented in several U.S. states and in other countries, from Australia to Zimbabwe. She has taught writing classes through community college and at writer’s conferences.

My God is Bigger | Talk
~ The pain that imprisons can become the peace that empowers. ~
When it felt like Helen Heavirland was living alongside the Biblical Job, she faced a crossroads—succumb to fear or learn to trust God. In “My God is Bigger”, she shares the journey through learning to accept “God’s will” and learning to face her fears. Sometimes God intervened in amazing ways; sometimes He remained silent. Full of real-life tension, humor, Bible stories, and Bible promises, no matter the listener’s circumstance, this is sure to inspire.

The Gift of Grief | Talk
~ Grieving our losses can free us to celebrate what remains. ~
This poignant story of grieving miscarriage shows the importance of recognizing all kinds of loss and offers tools to deal with grief. It helps the participant leave behind regrets of what can never be and celebrate both the memories and the life that is.
Who can appreciate this? Rates of miscarriage are estimated to be as high as 50% of all pregnancies. Add to that millions of pregnancies ended by abortion. And everyone else who has lost a parent, a sibling, a friend, a child, a spouse. And everyone who’s dealt with health crises or serious disappointment. Everyone has experienced loss.

How can you make your stories stand above the crowd of manuscripts on an editor’s desk? How can you write them to touch the hearts of a crowd of readers? As needed, everything from lively writing, grammar, formatting submissions, an introduction to copyright, growing through rejection, to keeping track of submissions and income.
